Assumptions and sources
Not in these totals
Prerequisites. Both programs require about 57–60 credit hours of college coursework (Texas core plus sciences) before you start.
Living costs: housing, food, transportation and personal expenses.
Future rate increases. These are 2026–27 rates. A 2027 start pays 2027–28 rates and later, which aren't published yet.
Scholarships and aid, which lower the price for many students.
Background check, drug screen and immunizations, which both programs require at the student's expense.
A&M items its calculator excludes: lab and equipment-access fees and the one-time matriculation fee. A&M also requires students to buy dental loupes by the end of the first fall; its supplies budget doesn't say whether loupes are inside it.
How each number was found
A&M tuition & fees come from A&M's tuition calculator (College of Dentistry, Dental Hygiene, Texas resident, variable rate). It takes whole hours, so half-hour semesters use the midpoint of the two neighbors.
